Packaging and accessories

The headsets are packagd in a completely white cardboard box with a transparent plastic window that showcases the headsets. The front side of the box is used to present the main features of the headsets such as Low Latency. On the upper side there is the Avantree logo and name next to the model name of the product.

The sides of the packaging follow the overall simple design of the packaging, here the main feature of the headset is presented alongside a general image of the headset with the transmiter.

The headsets and wireless transmiter are held in place by a flexible plastic frame.

Visual inspection

The Avantree HT3189 bundle offers the Avantree AS9S headsets paired with the Avantree BTTC-318 (Priva 3) wireless transmitter which offers an operating range of up to 30 meters and compatibiliy with Bluetooth V4.2. The overall design of the AS9S headsets is similar with that of the original Avantree Audition Pro, in terms of design the notable difference is the color scheme used. The BTTC-318 (Priva 3) wireless transmitter follows in the same color scheme but has a brushed sunburst texture added to the main case.

The overall structure of the headsets is made out of metal on the inside and plastic on the outside. The height adjustment mechanism consists of metal beams that slide on a plastic frame. The earcups can be rotated for a better fit, the metallic beams that hold the earcups attached are also integrated into the height adjustment system.

The headband is covered in leather with stitchings on the sides holding the material in place. The headband itself is connected to the earcups through metal beams while the wires are covered in textile sleeving.

The headsets use two 40 mm speakers with Neodymium magnets, these have a impedance of 32 Ohm. The ear cushions installed over the speakers use soft leather and foam.

The outer case of the earcups is made out of plastic covered by a rubberized texture with textured inserts. On the underside of the right earcup there are the charging port and 3mm audio jack, while on the side of the earcup there are the three main buttons of the headset: Volume up – down and Power.

Testing

In terms of daily usage, the Avantree HT3189 offer a pleasant experience, the headsets are comfortable even after several hours of continuous usag, both the headband and earcups have a firm over the head and ears without applying excessive pressure. In addition, the power and volume control buttons are easy to reach and operate.

The advertised battery life is between 35-40hours, however, during testing the battery lasted approximately 30 to 32 hours. This result was achieved after a full discharge and recharge cycle of the battery.For daily usage and the price, this battery life is more than adequate.

The sound quality is good in both games and different music styles, the sound is clear and the 40mm speakers provide good bass. While the bass is strong enough the treble could be stronger, especially in the case of gaming or some songs. The overall sound is similar in quality with that of a wired pair of headsets however the wireless design of the Avantree HT3189 compensates for the underpowered midtones.

Final thoughts

The Avantree HT3189 paired with the wireless transmitter is a good bundle that offers a great audio experience. The sound quality is good in both wireless and wired mode, all the sounds are rendered with clarity and the bass is strong enough to enrich the experience, the only drawback is the weak treble. The range of the headsets is more than enough at approximately 30 meters from the transmitter and the movement does not affect the Bluetooth connection. The battery life is just below the advertised 40 hours per charge, however the 35 hours of charge is enough for most usage scenarios, especially since the headsets can be left charging overnight. From an ergonomics standpoint the headsets are comfortable even after a several months of usage, the cushions maintain their flexibility and the headband provides good support without excessive pressure.

In conclusion, the Avantree HT3189 is a well balanced package that offers a good audio experience and shows how much the wireless technology has improved over the years. The accessory package is rich, including everything from RCA cable to charging ports and of course the transmitter. In terms of build quality, Avantree combined both plastic and metal to achieve a light-weight pair of headsets that offer a good grip.
