The Crucial P5 Plus 1TB has a simple yet good design, with an all-black PCB and black with white text labels. The label on the front side is not special in any way, it’s made from plastic and can easily be removed without damaging it.
The design of the SSD can be viewed as one of its features or one of its shortcomings, it all depends on your perspective. And especially on what you want from an SSD. I’d say that it’s better to have a simple looking SSD that performs.
The Crucial P5 Plus 1TB, just like many other M.2 SSDs has the 2280 form factor, this means that the SSD has a width of 22 mm and a length of 80 mm.
The P5 Plus uses the brand-new Micron DM02A1 controller. Not much is known about this controller as the manufacturer is keeping the specifications and technical information under guard. What we do know for sure about the DM02A1 is that is an eight-channel flash controller, support for PCI-Express 4.0, SLC and TLC cache systems among other things that have yet to be revealed.
The 1GB of LPDDR4 DRAM is used for the SSDs mapping tables. This DRAM chip is running at 4266MHz and has the model number: D8BMZ. Just like the rest of the components used on the P5 Plus, this chip is made by Micron as well.
The storage chips present with this SSD are Micron made 176-Layer 3D TLC units, with the model number: B47R.
The Crucial P5 Plus 1TB, has PCIe Gen 4 x4 interface.
