Testing
The following system was used to test the memory kit:
– Processor: Intel i9 9900K @ 5GHz
– Motherboard: ASRock Z390 Phantom Gaming X
– Graphics Card: MSI GeForce RTX 2070 Super Gaming X Trio
– SSD: Crucial MX 500GB
– HDD: WD 1TB Blue
– PSU: Seasonic Snow Silent 750W Platinum
– CPU Cooler: CoolerMaster MasterLiquid 240
– Case: Phanteks Enthoo Luxe
– OS: Windows 10 64-Bit (After April Update)
The RAM was tested using the CPU at its turbo frequency of 5 GHz. The memory was firstly tested using the standard X.M.P frequency while the second test was done with the memory at the maximum frequency reached while Overclocking. Each test was done a minimum of three times.
Software used for testing the RAM Kit:
– CineBench R15
– Shadow of the Tomb Raider
– SuperPi 1.55 Mod
– AIDA64 Extreme Version: 6.25.5400
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
CineBench R15
AIDA64 Read/Write/Copy Benchmark
AIDA64 Latency Benchmark
SuperPi 1.55 Mod
Final thoughts
The Ballistix DDR4-3200 MHz CL16 32GB kit is available for approximately 160 USD or EUR. The first advantage of this memory kit is the affordable price, when compared with the competing RAM kits on the market. The design is minimalist with angular shapes integrated into the heatsink and no graphic elements applied on the sides of the RAM module. Depending on the color selected, the Ballistix can match any configuration available on the market.
The build quality of the Ballistix DDR4 is great, the heatsink is made out of metal and is anodized with a matte black finish and three different colors to choose from. The PCB quality is also good, and the double-sided thermal pads provide a good grip for the heatsink.
The overclocking is great, with the standard timings of 16-18-18-36, this RAM kit was able to overclock to 3600MHz from the factory 3200MHz. More performance can be gained by lowering the timings while increasing the frequency. The 3600MHz overclock results in an average performance gain of 4 frames per second in games.
The performance is great in both gaming and benchmarks, with the XMP profile selected, the RAM kit will run at the advertised frequency of 3200MHz with the timings: 16-18-18-36 and 1.35V. The
In conclusion, the Ballistix DDR4-3200 MHz CL16 32GB kit is a great choice for a gaming system using the latest Intel or AMD platforms. The performance is good and the build quality is great. There is a lack of RGB with the Ballistix, and this is good, as it offers the option of buying a good memory kit for a lower price, if RGB is not desired.
