Visual inspection

The Tundra TD02-E model is the new variant of the Silverstone Tundra TD02 cooler; the changes brought compared to the previous model are: the tubes and pump have been replaced, the TD02-E uses a thinner radiator which a thickness of 27mm compared to the 45mm of the original cooler.
The cooler comes accompanied by two 120mm fans, which use a 4-Pin PWM Molex connector, the fans spinning at a maximum of 2500RPM.

The CPU block has an elegant design, the main materials used are aluminium, plastic and copper. The “SilverStone” logo lights up blue while the cooler is powered on. Compared to the previous version (TD02), the TD02-E uses a new pump and the CPU Block has a black plastic cover.

The CPU block is made out of copper, one characteristic of Silverstone’s Tundra line is the use of a copper base fixed without screws.

Pump of the cooler uses a 3-Pin Molex connector for power, the cable is covered with black sleeving.

The cooler uses two rubberized tubes, each having a length of 310mm, they connect to the CPU Block and pump through 90° fittings.

Like its predecessor, the TD02-E model uses a 240mm radiator with a unique design destined for performance and reliability. The fins are deeper than a typical radiator’s folded metal ‘fins’ and they are also stacked tightly together, this requires a static pressure optimized fan.

The transparent sides of the radiator are detachable, below the sides there is applied a carbon fiber style pattern.

The cooler is accompanied by two 120mm fans with a maximum speed of 2500RPM and PWM function. The cable of the fans is covered by black sleeving and they use a 4-Pin Molex connector for power.

Testing

The following system was used to test the cooler:
– Processor: Intel i5 4690K @ 3.9 GHz and overclocked to 4.5 GHz
– Motherboard: MSI Z97 Gaming 9 ACK
– RAM: 8GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical @ 2133MHz
– GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 970 Armor 2X 4G
– SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB
– HDD: Samsung SpinPoint F3 500GB
– PSU: Antec Edge 550W
– Display: AOC i2769VM
– Case: Phanteks Enthoo Luxe White
– Thermal compound: Arctic Cooling MX-4

Software used for testing the cooler:
– AIDA64 Extreme Version: 5.70.3800 (3/21/2016)
– Intel Burn Test v2.54
– Prime95 28.5

The cooler was tested with the CPU at the default turbo frequency of 3.9 GHz and overclocked to 4.5 GHz with a core voltage of 1.187 V.
Also the included fan have been used at its maximum speed.
The room temperature was approximately “25°C (77°F)”, with 5°C margin of error.
The idle test consists of the CPU sitting idle at the desktop for 30 minutes, the temperature was measured at the end of the test.
The settings of the software used are the following:
Intel Burn Test v2.54 – Stress level: Maximum
Prime95 28.5 – small FFT
AIDA64 Extreme Version – Temperature monitoring.
Each test was conducted for 40 minutes.

The test results are as follows:

Idle

Full Load

The noise level was measured at three different distances from the fans (10cm, 20cm, 30cm.) the noise was measured with a margin of error of ± 5 db.

Final thoughts

The Tundra TD02-E cooler is a good choice due to its build quality and elegant look. Just like its predecessor, the mounting system is one of the simplest & versatile using metallic screws & backplate with plastic washers.
The pump is silent and the tubes are flexible enough to adapt to any configuration.
The included fans although have a good air flow, are not silent, unfortunately Silverstone decided like the last time to not implement any form of fan control, either physical (Molex Adapter) or through Software.
