be quiet! Pure Base 500DX

Visual inspection

The be quiet! Pure Base 500DX has a different design than the regular Pure Base 500. The main purpose of this case is to offer increased airflow while having a low noise output. In addition, addressable RGB LEDs are integrated within the front panel and on the side of the case, a feature which makes the Pure Base 500DX, the very first product that uses RGB in the be quiet! lineup.
The Pure base 500 DX is available in two colors, black or white, and has a weight of 7.83 kg, with the dimensions: H x W x D: 443 x 232 x 450mm.

The main side panel is manufactured from tempered glass, and features a dark tint with blacked out edges. The mounting system used is the standard four thumbscrews at the corners, with rubber pads below the glass to prevent any scratches or damage.

The opposite side panel is made from regular metal, and uses a different mounting system which involves thin metal notches that slide into the edge of the case. At the back of the side panel, there are two captive thumb screws that will hold the panel attached to the chassis.

The front side of the Pure Base 500DX is made out of plastic with a metal mesh, and it is the main improvement over the standard Pure Base 500 model. The metallic mesh covers approximately 80% of the total surface of the front panel, while the center has RGB integration across the whole height of the panel.

The front panel of the case is attached to the chassis using standard plastic clips which need to be pushed from the inside to have an easier removal. Fortunately, the wires for the RGB LEDs use a touch pin system, which means that the front panel can be removed without damaging any of the cables. This system is fairly simple and involves a PCB with three contact pads placed on the chassis, with three contact pins attached to the front panel.

Behind the front panel there is the main intake filter of the case, which is attached on one side with plastic notches that allow it to swivel. The filter is held in place on the other side with a magnet. In addition, at the front of the case, one of the three included 140mm fans is installed.

The I/O panel of the case is located above the front panel, and it is mounted with screws to the chassis.
The I/O panel is composed of the following:
– 1x Headphone;
– 1x Microphone;
– 1x USB 3.1 Gen2 Type-C;
– 1x USB 3.0.

The back side of the case has the standard structure and features seven expansion slots and a metallic cover that is installed on the side.

The power supply is installed at the bottom using the metal bracket that first must be attached to the back of the power supply, and then it attaches to the lower back of the case.

The underside of the Pure Base 500DX is simple in design and features a long dust filter that covers the entire base of the case. This dust filter can be removed by sliding it from the front of the case.

The case sits on four plastic feet that are equipped with rubber pads to not only increase the grip of the case, but also to prevent any scratches.

The top of the case features a removable magnetic dust filter. The chassis uses cutouts done in a triangle pattern to allow the airflow to move. In addition, there are elongated strips for installing the fans or radiators.

The interior of the Pure Base 500DX is using a standard layout with the power supply at the bottom. The bottom part of the interior is covered by a non-removable metallic shroud that also uses the same cutouts done in a triangle pattern as the top side of the case.

The back side of the interior has plenty of tie down points for wire management and pre-installed Velcro straps which are by default, holding the I/O panel cables routed. There is approximately 24 mm of space for cable management.

On the left side, towards the front of the case, there is a metal plate that not only will cover the cables routed to the motherboard and graphics card, but also serves as a tray for two 2.5” storage devices.

Installed over the CPU socket cutout of the motherboard tray, we have a metallic plate that has as its purpose, holding two additional SSDs. This tray can be removed and is held in place by a single thumb screw.

In front of the power supply and under the metallic shroud, there is an HDD cage which can accommodate two 3.5″ drivers or one 3.5″ and one 2.5″ drive. This cage is attached to the chassis by two thumb screws and also features rubber pads on the sides.

The Pure Base 500DX has three 140mm fans preinstalled, one at the front and the other two on the top and on the back side. These are configured as intake at the front and exhaust at the back. The fans are be quiet! Silent Wing 2 models and use a 3 Pin connector for power.

The cables of the case are long and completely black.
