Final thoughts
The Silicon Power Bolt B75 Pro 1TB is a good portable SSD that delivers on the promise of being easy to use and reliable. However, it does not reach the advertised reading and writing speeds, even though its close.
The main advantage of this SSD is its simple design and construction. It’s a true plug-n play storage device that does not need drivers or firmware updates to work from the start.
The build quality is great, with a solid aluminum case that is made out of two parts and an inner plastic tray to keep the SSD in place. However, this SSD is neither waterproof nor scratch resistant so keep it safe if you care for your data.
In terms of the performance, the Bolt B75 1TB is good for an external SATA SSD. The bottleneck is the interface that links the SATA SSD with the USB Type C connector. However, this cannot be avoided at this price range.
In daily usage, the SSD can sustain a constant file copy speed of 170mb/s within the Windows environment. While not the highest speed for an SSD, it is constant across all tests and operations which is important, especially when copying large files.
For 65USD, you cannot really go wrong with this SSD, it’s well built, lightweight and uses quality components. In addition, thanks to the USB Type C connector, it will be compatible with many modern devices, such as notebooks, smartphones and so on.
In conclusion, the Silicon Power Bolt B75 Pro 1TB is a good budget portable SSD that delivers a good performance out of the box. The speed is limited by the SATA to USB Type C adapter and the cache size is not big. However, the constant speed during all operations is a great thing to see on such a cheap storage device.
