Testing
The controls on the BP82 are simple: to turn the earbuds on you must either take the earbuds out of the case or keep the switch touched for 2 seconds.
The glossy side of the earbud is where the tactile switch is installed. Basic controls like play and stop are done by short touching and double touching the side of the earbud. The same system is used for answering and ending calls. The next and previous song function is done by double touching the side of either the left or the right earbud. For example, to switch to the next song, you must double touch the right earbud.
In terms of ergonomics, the Blast Plug BP82 are good, with a weight of 9.2g, you can barely feel them. However, ergonomics is a thing that will be right from person to person. While the shape of these earbuds might be right for me, someone else might find them uncomfortable.
The following songs have been used to test the headsets:
– The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Soundtrack
– Bill Conti – Gonna Fly Now
– Creedence Clearwater Revival – Run Through The Jungle
– Creedence Clearwater Revival – Fortunate Son
– Alice Cooper – I’m Eighteen
– Mötley Crüe – Kickstart my Heart
– T-Rex – Get It On
– Jimi Hendrix – Foxy Lady
– Jimi Hendrix – Purple Haze
– Daft Punk Feat Pharrell Williams – Get Lucky
– Paradise Walk – Stranger
– Lorde – Tennis Court (Flume Remix)
– Desire – Under Your Spell
– Kokiri Boy – GlobulDub
– Kavinsky & Lovefoxxx – Nightcall
– Glass Animals – Holiest
The sound quality is good, especially with the volume set to medium. However, just like many other earbuds, the bass is too strong and will interfere with the mid and low frequencies given the chance. The vocals are clear and the same can be said for the phone call sound quality.
The carrying case can fully charge itself in 1.5 hours and both earbuds in under 1.5 hours. The total charge capacity of the carrying case is 400 mAh which will last over 3 full charges for both earbuds.
The earbuds have an advertised usage time of up to 3.5 hours, however, in my case, the maximum usage time I was able to have is 3.2 hours. This is a small difference that can be tracked down to the quality of the internal batteries.
Final thoughts
The Silicon Power Blast Plug BP82 is a good upgrade from the previous model. While both models are good, the BP82 look better and have a smaller footprint. The sound quality is good for both music and phone calls, however, the bass can muffle the mid and low frequencies given the opportunity.
The build quality is great, even though we are talking about plastic casing on the earbuds and a plastic structure on the carrying case. The plastics are of good quality, with no visible manufacturing defects and uneven surfaces.
The battery life is adequate, while other Bluetooth earbuds can go as much as 5 hours of continuous usage, those are also priced higher. 3.5 hours of continuous usage is good enough for such a product. And by that, I mean for such a low price.
The only drawback of the BP82 is the overpowered bass that will muffle some of the sounds if the volume level is set too high. This is typical of many affordable earbuds, as those that have a higher frequency separation and definition are part of a different price range.
In conclusion, the Silicon Power Blast Plug BP82 is a good pair of earbuds that has many features worth using. The Bluetooth 5 connectivity is solid and reliable and the same can be said for the tactile system.
