Features:

Three-dimensional Multiple Airflow Pass-through Structure: By introducing our new T-M.A.P.S technology for the Ninja 4, we were able to increase the cooling capacity compared to previous models based on the older M.A.P.S lamellar structure. The clever arrangement of the cooling fins allows the usage of an additional pair of fins without suffering negative effects to weight or height of the heatsink and optimizes the cooling power in the lower speed range of the supplied fan.
Glide Stream 120 mm PWM Fan: The enclosed 120mm fan comes from the Glide- Stream PWM series. This new model offers the ability to adjust the maximum fan speed in 3 settings via a slide switch, allowing the user to choose between extremely silent operation or maximum cooling power.
Flexible Fan Mounting: Inspired by his predecessors, the Ninja 4 offers the option to install the fan on all four sides of the heatsink. This allows for very effective integration into air flow of the case. To further increase the performance, a second fan* can be installed by using the included additional pair of fan clips.
User-friendly Installation System: The proven HPMS (Hyper Precision Mounting System) mounting system is also to be found in Ninja 4 again. The mounting of the cooler is much easier. It requires fewer installation steps and time without compromising reliability.

Visual inspection

The Ninja 4 model is accompanied by a Glide Stream 120 mm PWM Fan. The cooler utilizes 6 heat pipes each having a diameter of 6mm also the cooler uses 36 aluminum fins, due to its construction the cooler weights 900g without the fan.

The 6 heatpipes are made out of nickel-plated copper, the base of the cooler is also made out of nickel-plated copper. The build quality and materials used are exceptional.

In each side of the cooler, we find a dedicated channel that allows a screwdriver to reach the base of the cooler and the mounting mechanism.

In the center of the cooler there is a circular canal surrounded by a stanched shuriken. The shuriken is a reference to the “Ninja” name of the cooler line, the shuriken being a weapon used by the ninja warriors.

The included fan has the same build quality as the cooler; the wire is covered entirely by a black high quality sleeve, the fan using a 4 Pin PWM Molex connector.

The fan features a 3-step switch for adjusting the speed of the fan. This switch is placed on the frame of the fan.

Testing

The following system was used to test the cooler:
–    Processor: Intel i5 4690K @ 3.9 GHz and overclocked to 4.5 GHz
–    Motherboard: MSI Z97 Gaming 9 ACK
–    RAM: 8GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical @ 2133MHz
–    GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 660 OC Gaming
–    SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB
–    HDD: Samsung SpinPoint F3 500GB
–    PSU: Antec Edge 550W Gold
–    Display: AOC i2769VM
–    Case: Phanteks Enthoo Luxe White
–    Thermal compound: Arctic Cooling MX-4

Software used for testing the cooler:
–    AIDA64 Extreme Version: 5.50.3600 (9/29/2015)
–    Intel Burn Test v2.54
–    Prime95 28.5

The cooler was tested with the CPU at the default turbo frequency of 3.9 GHz and overclocked to 4.5 GHz with a core voltage of 1.187 V.
Also the included fans have been used at their maximum speed.
The room temperature was approximately 26°C (78°F), with 2°C margin of error.
The idle test consists of the CPU sitting idle at the desktop for 30 minutes, the temperature was measured at the end of the test.
The settings of the software used are the following:
Intel Burn Test v2.54 – Stress level: Maximum
Prime95 28.5 – small FFT
AIDA64 Extreme Version – Temperature monitoring.
Each test was conducted for 40 minutes.

The test results are as follows:

Idle

Load

The noise level was measured at three different distances from the fans (10cm, 20cm, 30cm.) the noise was measured with a margin of error of ± 5 db.

The space between the DIMM slots and the front fan is approximately 38 mm.

Final thoughts

The Scythe Ninja 4 cooler is the latest model of the Ninja line, offering good performance with a low noise. The mounting system is good, it evenly distributes the weight of the cooler, also the RAM space is acceptable.
The accessory bundle is right, along the thermal compound tube Scythe includes a long screwdriver and two extra clips for a fan, thus encouraging a push-pull configuration.
In conclusion, the Ninja 4 model offers a good performance-price ratio with excellent build quality and rich accessory bundle.
