Visual inspection
The cooler has a minimalist look thanks to the materials used in its construction, the Morpheus model features 12 heat pipes, each one having a thickness of 6mm. Two 120mm fans can be mounted on the heat sink using the included metallic clips.
The base of the cooler is made out of nickel-plated copper that is polished to a mirror like reflection. Also the heatpipes make direct contact with the base but not with the graphic chip of the GPU.
The 12 heatpipes are made out of the same material as the base of the cooler in order to improve thermal conductivity and maintain the minimalist design of the cooler.
Testing
The cooler was tested using a NVIDIA MSI GeForce GTX 660 Twin Frozr IV 2 GB graphics card. The core frequency during the tests was approximately 1091MHz and the memory frequency was approximately 3004MHz. The cooler was tested using the software MSI Kombustor 2.5.2 and the game Tomb Raider 2013, each test was conducted for 40 minutes at a ambiental temperature of approximately 12 °C.
The thermal compound used while testing was the Arctic Cooling MX-4.
The Fans used to test cooler Morpheus were the NoiseBlocker BlackSilent Pro PL-PS @ maximum RPM.
The test results are as follows:
The installation of the cooler was relatively straightforward, the included manual contains instructions and illustrations in multiple languages. Due to the size of the heat sink, the installation might be more complicated in the case of a non-reference graphics card.
Once the cooler is installed on the graphics card, the whole assembly takes up 3 slots without the two fans installed on the heat sink. With the two 120mm fans installed, the graphics card with the cooler takes up to 4 expansion slots.
Final thoughts
The Raijintek Morpheus cooler is a good product, being a ideal cooling system for a single graphics card. The installation of the cooler is easy due to the intuitive mounting system and the manual. The performance of the cooler is exceptional, the only inconvenient of the Morpheus model is the size of the heat sink – with the cooler installed with two fans, the whole assembly takes up 4 expansion slots making a SLI/CrossFire configuration impossible.
In conclusion, Raijintek created a cooling system which offers exceptional performance with a rich accessory bundle and with a intuitive mounting system. In the future Raijintek can improve the Morpheus model by adding a support for the heat sink, due to it’s size & it’s weight, the heat sink might cause the graphics card’s PCB to bend, also Raijintek could include a Molex adapter to the GPU’s fan header, that way the user can have more control over the fans.
