Iceberg Thermal IceSLEET G4 OC

Visual inspection

The IceSLEET G4 OC is part of a new series of CPU coolers, and it has a different design than the first series of Iceberg Thermal CPU coolers. The IceSLEET G4 OC is available in several variants, the model in this review is the black and teal G4 OC variant.

The CPU cooler has top and side plastic covers that not only help with the design of the cooler but have a functional purpose. In addition, the IceSLEET G4 OC uses a tool-less mounting system for included 120mm fan.

The IceSLEET G4 OC has a height of 156mm a depth of 81mm and a width of 139mm with a weight of 733g.

The heatsink of the IceSLEET G4 OC has a single tower design and uses 48 aluminum made cooling fins. The back side of the heatsink has the cooling fins shaped with an angular design. Thanks to the way the fan is mounted on the heatsink, the IceSLEET G4 OC can only use a single 120mm fan.

The IceSLEET G4 OC uses four nickel-plated copper made heatpipes. These are arranged in the standard U shape around the cooling fins. Each heatpipe has an outer diameter of 6mm and makes direct contact with the CPU surface thanks to the direct touch design of the baseplate.

The baseplate of the IceSLEET G4 OC has a direct touch design. This means that the heatpipes of the CPU cooler are integrated into the surface of the baseplate and contact the CPU. This baseplate design is often used on cheaper CPU cooler and it is regarded as inferior when compared to a solid copper made baseplate.

The endings of the heatpipes are not symmetrical, however, they are covered by the top plastic plate.

The fan is installed on the heatsink using a rail system made out of plastic. It’s a simple and convenient system, however its proprietary design makes replacing the fan harder than needed.

The IceSLEET G4 OC uses a single 120mm fan for its active cooling. This fan is part of the new IceGALE 120 series and uses a Fluid Dynamic Bearing. This fan has a minimum speed of 600RPM and a maximum speed of 1400RPM. Fortunately, the speed can be controlled via PWM.

The cable of this fan is protected by high quality sleeving. In addition, this fan has only one cable and three separate connectors, one 4-pin for power and two 3-pin connectors for the RGB LEDs.

The IceGALE 120 has rubber pads on both sides of the fan frame. These will dampen the vibrations and prevents the fan from scratching the heatsink.
