Testing

When testing the keyboard, no issues were present, either in terms of the functionality or the ergonomics or software.

The RGB is functional even without the software installed, and the same can be said for switching the various profiles of the keyboard.

In terms of ergonomics, the Thor RX85 Brown is a good keyboard, the wrist rest is large enough for most hand and the magnets are strong enough to keep it in place.

The RGB system used with the Thor RX85 Brown is good, with individual LEDs installed underneath each mechanical switch. However, the way the keycaps are designed means that not all legends on each key will be visible at night.

The Num lock, Caps Lock and Scroll Lock status LEDs are using white LEDs with a matte finish on top.

The software offered with the Thor RX85 Brown has been widely used with many keyboards, form Genesis and other brands. However, this does not mean the software is bad, on the contrary.

It’s your standard keyboard software but it does its job and works well, it offers everything from LED control to macro key mapping, to function editing and the pooling rate adjustment, which by default is set at 1000 hertz.

If you don’t like this software, fortunately you don’t really need it to use the keyboard, but you do need it if you want to get the most out of the keyboard.

The testing with this keyboard showcases that it has a good performance overall, and we are doing the first test using Aqua’s Key benchmark. This benchmark is used to showcase if the keyboard is capable of full N-key rollover and as we can see, the keyboard works perfectly with no issues present within the testing period.

The next benchmark is Switch Hitter which tests to see if the keyboard suffers from chatter. Chatter is an issue when some mechanical keyboards will register each keystroke multiple times.

Final thoughts

The Genesis Thor RX85 Brown is a good keyboard, not only is it good looking and different, but it has some good and useful features that are often forgotten by some manufacturers. For example, the volume dial is a life changer when you get used to it.

The performance is good for a keyboard of this price range, the Kailh Brown switches are good in both gaming and office work and they do work fairly well.

The overall layout of the keyboard is good, as it is intuitive and the wrist wrest is comfortable even after long periods of time.

In terms of the build quality, everything is good and should last a long time. From the plastic body to the metal plate installed on the front. Everything is well made and of high quality.

The RGB LEDs installed on this keyboard are good enough for this price range. There isn’t much to say about them, they are installed underneath the switches and have a good color transition and glow.

There isn’t much to complain here really, perhaps more switch options, perhaps a detachable USB cable, but those are only features that certain people want and they do not really affect the usage of the keyboard.

In conclusion, the Genesis Thor RX85 Brown is a good-looking keyboard that has plenty of features to make it worth the price tag even today. This keyboard while not being a new model still is relevant today as it has a good build quality, design and reliability. The performance is good as well, as this model uses Kailh Brown switches that are well known for their reliability.
