4. Visual inspection
The Enthoo Evolv ATX model has an elegant design and a sturdy construction due to the materials used: aluminum and steel. The main characteristic of this model is the spacious interior, optimized for water-cooling.
The case is available in three colors: Satin Black, Anthracite Grey and Galaxy Silver, these accentuate the aluminum used in its construction.
The Enthoo Evolv ATX model is a Mid-Tower chassis having the dimensions (WxHxD) 235mm x 495mm x 510mm and a weight of 10.2 Kg.
The front side of the case is simple, the aluminum panel is framed by the two side intake slots.
On the upper side there is the I/O panel, hidden behind a flip-up panel, the panel is composed of the following: 2x USB 3.0 ports, 2x Audio jacks, 1x Reset button.
On the lower side we have the white Power LED. Included in the accessory bundle we find three other LEDs (Red, Blue, Green) which can replace the standard white Power LED.
The aluminum front panel is detachable, being mounted on the chassis with the help of 4 metallic clamps. Behind the front panel we find a removable dust filter with two pre-installed 140mm fans.
The back side features one pre-installed 140mm fan mounted on rails in order for it to be able to change its position and 7 expansion slots. On the lower side there is the space for the Power Supply.
The side panels are fixed on the chassis with the help of a few metallic clamps, and the panels open using two hinges each.
The hinges of the side panels are fixed at the back of the case, also the edges of the chassis are covered by a soft foam to dampen the contact between the side panels and the frame of the case.
The case includes one removable dust filter (From the back) the case is resting on two wide aluminum feet with rubber base.
The top side of the chassis maintains the elegant & simplistic design of the front side. Here we find the power button.
The top panel features 5 exhaust slots on each edge/side.
The interior of the Evolv ATX chassis is optimized for water cooling and wire management. The case comes with three preinstalled fans: two 140mm intake fans at the front and one 140mm exhaust fan at the back.
The space intended for the power supply is covered by a metallic cover, the cover is attached using three thumb screws. At the front we find the Phanteks logo and a slot for one 2.5″ storage tray.
The front side of this cover can be detached to facilitate the installation of a bigger radiator at the front of the chassis. To install a long radiator the two storage trays located at the bottom of the case must be removed.
The mounting system for the storage units is completely modular, the storage units are mounted on a metallic bracket which is installed on the side of the case. The storage trays are thin to facilitate the airflow generated by the two 140mm fans mounted at the front of the case.
On the lower front side of the case we have two conventional storage trays, these can be accessed from the back of the case.
The top part of the case features a detachable fan mounting system which sits on rails, this plate supports either 2(two) 140mm fans or 3(three) 120mm fans.
The space behind the motherboard tray for wire management is generous, measuring 17.5mm at the back of the case and approximately 25mm at the front.
Mounted on the back of the motherboard tray we have a fan-hub which can power up to 6 fans using 3-pin Molex connectors. This hub is controlled by using the motherboard, more precisely using a 4-pin fan header (CPU) for PWM signal, also the hub can be powered through a SATA connector.
At the back we have mounted two trays for 2.5″ storage devices.
The Enthoo Evolv ATX chassis has all the cables including the cables from the I/O Panel and fans already organized, they are fastened using Velcro-type textile ties.
5. Testing
The following system was mounted in the chassis:
– Processor: Intel i5 4690K @ 3.9 GHz
– Motherboard: MSI Z97 Gaming 9 ACK
– RAM: 8GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical
– GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 660 OC Gaming
– SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB
– HDD: Samsung SpinPoint F3 500GB
– PSU: In Win Green Me 700W Bronze
– Display: AOC i2769VM
The mounting system for the two normal storage units is completely Tool-Less.
In the case of the metallic storage trays/brackets are installed using screws.
The Enthoo Evolv ATX model offers ample space in its interior & plenty of options for liquid cooling. Below we have a diagram which shows the different options for liquid cooling.
The noise level was measured at three different distances from the fans (10cm, 20cm, 30cm.) the noise was measured with a margin of error of ± 5 db.
6. Final thoughts
The Evolv ATX model is a case with a unique design optimized for silence, performance and wire management, being the ideal choice for a water-cooling system.
The build quality is exceptional both on the outside and on the inside, the side panels have no flex. The accessory bundle is rich offering a pump mounting plate, while the chambered screw box is a welcomed addition.
The detachable mounting plate for fans at the top of the case is an example for the majority of the cases on the market. This system makes the mounting of fans & radiators on the case easy.
In conclusion, with the launch of the Evolv ATX model, Phanteks expanded its line of exceptional cases, offering a product which addresses every type of user and surpassing cases situated in a higher price segment.
The only inconvenient is the small number of tie-down points for wires on the back of the motherboard tray, making the wire-management process harder.
