ASRock Radeon RX 5700 XT Taichi 8G OC+

Testing

The following system was used to test the graphics card:
– Processor: Intel i9 9900K @ 5 GHz
– Motherboard: ASRock Z390 Phantom Gaming X
– RAM: Ballistix Tactical Tracer 16GB DDR4 @ 2666MHz
– SSD: Crucial MX 500
– HDD: WD 1 TB Blue
– PSU: Seasonic Snow Silent 750W
– CPU Cooler: CoolerMater MasterLiquid 240
– Case: Phanteks Enthoo Luxe White
– Thermal compound: Arctic Cooling MX-4

To test the graphics card, the AMD Radeon Adrenalin 19.11.3 Beta driver was used, being the latest AMD driver available at the time of writing the review.
All the games used to test the graphics cards are set to their highest quality settings with the resolution 1920 x 1080. Both the games and benchmarks used were run three times.
The software used to measure the temperature and frames per second (FPS) are the following:

– AIDA64 Extreme 6.10.5200
– GPU-Z v2.26.0
– MSI Afterburner 4.6.0
– Fraps

The overclocking has been done using the default fan settings. Each graphic card overclocks differently due to different batches of memory chips used as well as the variation in the manufacturing process of the graphics core. This means that each graphics card will overclock differently in both frequencies obtained and voltage required.

In the case of the ASRock Radeon RX 5700 XT Taichi 8G OC+, a maximum overclock of 2102MHz Base Clock and 1898 Memory Clock was achieved.

The test results are as follows:

Grand Theft Auto V (Low 0.1%)

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (Low 0.1%)

Metro Exodus (Low 0.1%)

Shadow Of The Tomb Raider (Low 0.1%)

Temperature

The Idle tests consists of the system left at the Desktop for 30 minutes, the power consumption is measured during the test.
Full Load: Represents the power consumption of the graphics card while playing a modern video game, in this case the benchmark of Tomb Raider 2013 with the following settings: 1920 x 1080, Ultra Preset, TressFX OFF, 4xAA.
Peak: Represents the power consumption of the graphics card during a synthetic benchmark, in this case FurMark 1.15.1.

The noise level was measured at three different distances from the fans (10cm, 20cm, 30cm.) the noise was measured with a margin of error of ± 5 db. In the case of the MASRock Radeon RX 5700 XT Taichi 8G OC+, the three fans will turn off when the graphic card has a light load. This means, that during internet browsing, movie rendering or other light tasks, both fans will not spin to eliminate the noise completely.

Final thoughts

The ASRock Radeon RX 5700 XT Taichi 8G OC+ is the flagship graphics card of ASRock, with a three-fan cooling system and a copper and metal made heatsink. The graphics card is available for a round 480 US Dollars or Euros, even lower depending on the location or if there is a sale available.

The design of this graphics card is unique, combining the signature Taichi cog elements with RGB LEDs and a two-tone color scheme across the fan shroud and the backplate.
The performance is very good for a Radeon RX 5700 XT, while the overclocking is mostly limited by the silicone quality, and not the actual PCB design or the cooling of the graphics card.

The ASRock Radeon RX 5700 XT Taichi 8G OC+ has a long name but it introduces plenty of features that are useful to both power users and gamers. First of all, this graphics card has two switches on the sides, one that turns off or on all the LEDs while the other switches between the two installed Bios chips.

The cooling system is good, with three fans providing all the airflow, with a beefy metal heatsink with a copper core making the contact with both the graphics core and VRM components. There are a total of 5(five) nickel-plated copper heatpipes that deal with the heat transfer and a metal plate that passively cools the memory chips.

In conclusion, the ASRock Radeon RX 5700 XT Taichi 8G OC+ is a good graphics card that does not disappoint, especially when compared with other AMD RX 5700 XT models. What makes the RX 5700 XT Taichi 8G OC+ stand out from the crowd is the six output ports available and the unique design. With a price of approximately 480 US Dollars, this graphics card is around 80 USD more than the reference 5700 XT graphics card.

  1. What size hex screws were on the side of the backplate that you had trouble with? I can’t seem to find anything that fits.

    1. Hi,
It is tricky to say, I suspect I was something very small like a 0.5 or 1 size. I just gave up on trying to remove those screws, it was impossible to find a screwdriver that fits.
