Alpenföhn Glacier Water 240 High Speed

Testing

The following system was used to test the cooler:
– Processor: Intel i9 9900K @ 5GHz
– Motherboard: ASRock Z390 Phantom Gaming X
– RAM: GOODRAM IRDM PRO 16GB DDR4-3600MHz
– GPU: MSI GeForce RTX 2070 Super Gaming X Trio
– SSD: Crucial MX500
– HDD: WD 1 TB Blue
– PSU: Seasonic Snow Silent 750W Platinum
– Case: Phanteks Enthoo Luxe White
– Thermal compound: Noctua NT-H2

Software used for testing the cooler:

– AIDA64 Extreme Version: 6.32.5600
– Intel Burn Test v2.54
– Prime95 29.1

The cooler was tested with the CPU at the default turbo frequency of 4.9 GHz and overclocked to 5 GHz with a core voltage of 1.261 V.
Also, the included fans have been used at their maximum speed.
The room temperature was approximately 26°C (78°F), with 2°C margin of error.
The idle test consists of the CPU sitting idle at the desktop for 30 minutes, the temperature was measured at the end of the test.

The settings of the software used are the following:
Intel Burn Test v2.54 – Stress level: Maximum
Prime95 29.1- small FFT
AIDA64 Extreme Version – FPU Benchmark & Temperature monitoring.
Each test was conducted for 40 minutes.

Idle

Full Load – IntelBurnTestV2

Full Load – AIDA64 CPU, FPU & Cache

The noise level was measured at three different distances from the fans (10cm, 20cm, 30cm.) the noise was measured with a margin of error of ± 2 db.

Final thoughts

The Alpenföhn Glacier Water 240 High Speed is one of the best AIO style CPU coolers. Its cooling performance makes it one of the best coolers on the market right now, being ahead of the NH-D15 from Noctua or the Celsius S24+ from Fractal Design.

The build quality is very good, with no issues with the fit and finish, although the piano black texture of the CPU block will be mess of fingerprints and marks if you’re not careful.

The installation process is very easy and the mounting system is simple, however for some reason, this mounting system lacks any type of spacers for the CPU socket. These plastic spacers that many use, especially Noctua, not only help with keeping the CPU block straight but also will prevent overtightening the block over the CPU. A set of spacers can be easily added with the next revision of this cooler, and I strongly recommend it.

The performance of this CPU cooler is very good, however there is a price to be paid. First of all, the two 120mm fans are not silent, they can’t be, as they spin at 2200RPM. Second of all, while the pump is quieter than the average pump, it still has a high-pitched whine which can be irritating for some.

The Alpenföhn Glacier Water 240 High Speed is available for purchase for around 177 USD or EUR. However, the availability in certain regions such as the US might be tricky at this moment.
For that price, this cooler offers plenty of features, not only it performs really well, but it has included what is probably the best thermal compound on the market: Thermal Grizzly Hydronaut.

In conclusion, the Alpenföhn Glacier Water 240 High Speed is a great CPU cooler that delivers an outstanding cooling performance and has a good design. The cooler has plenty of RGB integration on both the CPU block cand the included fans. One inconvenient with the Glacier Water 240 High Speed is the high noise output and also, the piano black casing of the CPU block.
