Features:
– Optimal cooling efficiency: The copper heat sink of the GXT 764 allows for outstanding thermal conduction. The water circulates from the pump to the aluminium radiator with high-density fin array. The maximum surface area of the liquid cooler combined with the illuminated cooling fan make sure the heat is dispelled rather than just moved around for optimal cooling efficiency.
– Flexible design: Thanks to the standard 120mm size, this liquid CPU cooler fits into almost any PC case. Powered by standard 4- and 3-pins power connectors, it is made for quick and easy installation.
– Cooling light: Apart from its optimal cooling functionality, the GXT 764 brings you other advantages. It works on a near silent operation level with less than 30 dBA maximum noise level. It also comes with a spectacular red mood light with the illuminated 120mm fan with 33 LEDs to complete your build in style.
Visual inspection
The GXT 764 is the first CPU cooler made by Trust, and is available on the market at a price of around 80 EUR, depending on the region and retailer. The cooler itself is a standard style AIO Liquid CPU Cooler using a 120mm aluminum radiator and uses a single 120mm fan in a push configuration.
The CPU block has a small footprint with a height of just 35mm, it also uses a single 3Pin connector and a short black cable. The main stylistic element of the block and pump assembly is at the top; this being made out of smoked transparent plastic that allows the pump PCB to be exposed. Behind the smoke plate there is also a small red LED that is switched on in a pulsing mode. The Trust GXT logo is applied over the surface of the block and is being illuminated by the same small LED behind the casing.
The base of the cooler is made out of copper and is mounted to the pump assembly with the help of eight aluminum screws. The overall surface of the copper baseplate is smooth but not perfectly finished.
The cooler uses two rubber tubes that have a length of 315mm with the inner diameter of 5.5mm and outer diameter of 12.5mm. Both tubes are connected to the radiator and the pump assembly with standard closed plastic fittings that are able to rotate. This style of closed loop is not serviceable.
In the case of the GXT 764 the radiator used is made out of aluminum and has the following measurements: 154mm (L) x 120mm (W) x 27mm (H). The fins are the standard thin metal wave style. these are also very easy to bend from the original shape.
The fan used with the Trust cooler is a 120mm unit that features no more than 33 red LEDs integrated into the frame. The fan itself has a maximum speed of 1300 RPM and can be PWM controlled thanks to the 4Pin Molex connector. The corners of the frame are covered in rubber pads to absorb any vibration generated by the hub assembly.
Testing
The following system was used to test the cooler:
– Processor: Intel i5 6600K @ 3.9 GHz and overclocked to 4.5 GHz
– Motherboard: ASRock Fatal1ty Z270 Professional Gaming i7
– RAM: Ballistix Tactical Tracer 16GB DDR4 @ 2666MHz
– GPU: GeForce GTX 1070 Founder’s Edition
– SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB
– HDD: WD 1 TB Blue
– PSU: SeaSonic Snow Silent 750W
– Case: Phanteks Enthoo Luxe White
– Thermal compound: Arctic Cooling MX-4
Software used for testing the cooler:
– AIDA64 Extreme Version: 5.98.4800 (9/19/2018)
– Intel Burn Test v2.54
– Prime95 29.1
The cooler was tested with the CPU at the default turbo frequency of 3.9 GHz and overclocked to 4.5 GHz with a core voltage of 1.296 V.
Also, the included fans have been used at their maximum speed.
The room temperature was approximately 26°C (78°F), with 2°C margin of error.
The idle test consists of the CPU sitting idle at the desktop for 30 minutes, the temperature was measured at the end of the test.
The settings of the software used are the following:
Intel Burn Test v2.54 – Stress level: Maximum
Prime95 29.1- small FFT
AIDA64 Extreme Version – Temperature monitoring.
Each test was conducted for 40 minutes.
The test results are as follows:
Idle
Full Load
The noise level was measured at three different distances from the fans (10cm, 20cm, 30cm.) the noise was measured with a margin of error of ± 5 db.
Final thoughts
The Trust GXT 764 is the first CPU cooler to be launched by the well-known peripheral company, and manages to provide a good cooling performance despite using a single 120mm fan and radiator configuration. The 120mm radiator would have been able to deliver a better performance from the factory if it was paired with two 120mm fans in a push-pull configuration.
The pump is silent when running at its maximum speed and the overall quality of the block is very good, the top smoked plate being the center design element of this CPU cooler.
The included 120mm fan has a speed between 400RPM and 1300 RPM while reaching 40 db. at its maximum speed. It provides adequate static pressure and airflow, however the main feature of this fan are the 33 red LEDs integrated into the frame.
The mounting system is simple and can be assembled in no more than a minute, the screws that hold in place the CPU block and pump assembly are paired with springs, thus the pressure is evenly applied on the processor surface.
As a conclusion for the GXT 764, the cooling performance is good for the out of the box configuration, it can be improved by adding a second fan or using fans with higher static pressure. The main disadvantage of this cooling system is the price, depending on the region and retailer, it be bought for as much as 85 EUR. This price puts the GTX 764 in a price segment that also includes 240mm AIO Liquid coolers or high end air coolers, such as the Noctua NH-D15 or Cooler Master MasterLiquid 240, to name a few. I hope that the price is only down to the release of the product and with the upcoming holiday season the Trust GXT 764 will be available for purchase at a reasonable price.
