The Tundra TD03-E model is the latest generation of the TD03 cooler, the main changes are the new pump-CPU block assembly and the upgraded tubes. The cooler uses 124mm radiator which has a width of 27mm. The cooler is accompanied by two 120mm APA1225M12 fans with a maximum speed of 2500 RPM and PWM functionality.
The CPU block has a minimalist look: the top side has is covered in glossy plastic, in the middle there is the Silverstone logo which when in use is illuminated in white.
The lower side is made out of metal, also the tubes of the cooler are connected to the pump using 90° rotating fittings.
The base of the cooler is made out of copper and is evenly polished, one characteristic of the Tundra coolers is the base mounted without screws, offering a better thermal performance.
The pump uses a 3-pin Molex connector, the cable of the connector is black, without sleeving.
The cooler uses two rubberized tubes, each having a length of 310mm.
Included in the accessories bundle there are two 120mm fans, APA1225M12 model, they have a minimum speed of 1500 RPM and a maximum speed of 2500 RPM, these fans use PWM. Each fan uses a 4-Pin Molex connector.
The 120mm radiator maintains the minimalist design of the cooler featuring one acrylic plate on the side, under these there is applied a carbon fiber pattern. Also the radiator features rubber pads for vibration dampening.
The radiator fins are deeper than a typical radiator’s folded metal ‘fins’ and they are also stacked tightly together, this requires a static pressure optimized fan, fortunately, SilverStone includes two such fans with the unit.
The following system was used to test the cooler:
– Processor: Intel i5 4690K @ 3.9 GHz and overclocked to 4.5 GHz
– Motherboard: MSI Z97 Gaming 9 ACK
– RAM: Crucial Ballistix Tactical 8GB DDR3 @ 2133MHz
– GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 970 Armor 2X 4G
– SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB
– HDD: WD Blue 1TB / Samsung SpinPoint F3 500GB
– PSU: Antec Edge 550W Gold
– Display: AOC i2769VM
– Case: Phanteks Enthoo Luxe White
– Thermal compound: Arctic Cooling MX-4
Software used for testing the cooler:
– AIDA64 Extreme Version: 5.80.4000 (Oct 25, 2016)
– Intel Burn Test v2.54
– Prime95 28.5
The cooler was tested with the CPU at the default turbo frequency of 3.9 GHz and overclocked to 4.5 GHz with a core voltage of 1.187 V.
Also the included fans have been used at their maximum speed.
The room temperature was approximately 26°C (78°F), with 2°C margin of error.
The idle test consists of the CPU sitting idle at the desktop for 30 minutes, the temperature was measured at the end of the test.
The settings of the software used are the following:
Intel Burn Test v2.54 – Stress level: Maximum
Prime95 28.5 – small FFT
AIDA64 Extreme Version – Temperature monitoring.
Each test was conducted for 40 minutes.
The test results are as follows:
The noise level was measured at three different distances from the fans (10cm, 20cm, 30cm.) the noise was measured with a margin of error of ± 5 db.
The TD03-E stands out through the quality of the finishes and the attention to details. Also the accessory bundle is rich including everything needed and more.
The mounting system is among the best, 95% of its parts being made out of metal, also its simplicity makes it easy to mount and less exposed to problems.
The Tundra TD03-E cooler brings several improvements over the previous model: the reduced dimension of the radiator now having a thickness of 27mm while the previous model had a thickness of 45mm, the tubes have been changed and the pump received a few small adjustments, all this considerably increasing the reliability of the cooler. The only inconvenient of this cooler are two included fans, which when used at their maximum (2500RPM) can be heard.
