Scythe Kotetsu Mark II

The Kotetsu Mark II is a single tower design cooler with an asymmetrical shape for better compatibility. The cooler is equipped with a single 120mm fan that has a speed range of 300 ~ 1200 RPM and can be controlled through PWM. The dimension for the cooler with the fan installed is: 130 x 154 x 83 mm.

 

The cooler uses 4 nickel-plated copper heatpipes, the outer diameter of each is 6mm as is the standard for most CPU coolers. The contact between the base of the cooler and the heatpipes is achieved through soldering. The main changes between the previous Kotetsu model are the nickel plating and the offset shape of the heatpipes.

 

The base of the cooler is made out of nickel-plated copper and it is brushed to a mirror like reflection. The smooth surface provides a better spread of the thermal compound, minimalizing the presence of air pockets.

 

Alongside the four heatpipes, the heatsink also uses 56 aluminum fins with a gap in between of approximately 0.3mm. The edges of the fins are smooth and there are ridges to allow for the fan clip to install.

 

The top plate of the cooler has a minimalist design, with the Scythe logo placed at the center. Each corner has a long bolt that holds the top plate and the fins below into place.

 

The included fan is a single Scythe Kaze Flex 120 PWM with a minimum speed of 300 RPM and a maximum speed of 1200 RPM. The fan has rubber pads preinstalled on each corner of the frame to dampen the vibration generated by the rotor. The system used by this model is a Sealed Precision Fluid Dynamic Bearing, rated at an average life expectancy of 120.000 hours. The cable of the fan is completely sleeved and the connector used is a standard 4-Pin Molex.
