be quiet! Pure Base 500

Visual inspection

The be quiet! Pure Base 500 has an elegant design, with no RGB integration or additional graphics applied. The case has two primary textures integrated in its shell, a brushed texture at the front and a matte finish around the sides and back. The Pure Base 500 is available in three different colors: Black, White and Metallic Gray.
The case has a weight of 6.95 kg, with the dimensions: H x W x D: 443 x 232 x 450mm.

The main side panel is made out of tempered glass and has a dark tint with matte black edges. Just like the Pure Base 500DX, this side panel is held in place with the help of four thumb screws. Unfortunately, this mechanism is outdated and does not provide any type of security when removing or reattaching the glass panel to the chassis. A swivel system would be better especially with the usage of tempered glass panels.

The opposite side panel is manufactured from metal and has a notch style mounting system. The panel is secured at the back of the case with the help of two captive thumb screws. Also, the interior side of the side panel is covered by soft foam that will help reduce the overall noise output of the system.

The front side of the case features a linear brushed texture, without any of the fingerprints that usually follow such a texture. This is thanks to the fact that the panel itself is made out of plastic and not metal. In addition, the be quiet! logo is placed on the lower center side of the panel, and it is chromed.

The main intake of the case is found on the sides of the front panel. Behind the metallic mesh there are dedicated dust filters that can be removed for cleaning.

The front panel is removable and it is held attached to the chassis by plastic clips. These clips need to be pushed from the inside of the case out, otherwise with repeated usage, they will wear out and break.

Behind the front panel of the case there is a single 140mm Pure Wings 2 fan preinstalled. At the front of the case, you can install a total of two 140mm fans or three 120mm fans. The radiator support here is: 120, 140, 240, 280 or 360mm radiators.

The I/O panel of the case is located above the front panel, and it is mounted with screws to the chassis. This means that the front panel can be removed without interfering with the I/O panel or its cables.
The I/O panel is composed of the following:
– 1x Headphone;
– 1x Microphone;
– 1x Power Button;
– 2x USB 3.0.

The back side of the case has a standard layout and has a total of seven expansion slots. The expansion slot covers are removable and are attached with thumbscrews.

The power supply is installed at the bottom of the case. However, the metal bracket needs to first be installed at the back of the power supply and then the whole unit slides into the case.

The underside of the Pure Base 500 is simple, here there is a single dust filter that covers the entire width and lengths of the lower side of the case. This filter can be removed at the front of the case by sliding it out.

The case uses four tall plastic made feet; these have rubber pads placed on their underside. The rubber pads are used to not only provide a good grip for the case but also to prevent any scratches from occurring on the surface the system sits on.

The top of the case can use either one of the two included top panels. The factory preinstalled panel is solid and restricts the airflow but suppresses the noise of the system. The second included optional top panel has a mesh dust filter and will allow the air to be pushed out of the system.

The interior of the Pure Base 500 has the same standard layout as the Pure Base 500DX. The lower side of the case is covered by a non-removable metallic power supply cover. Fortunately, this cover has a triangle pattern cutout into its surface which not only compliments the overall design of the case but allows the air to move around the chassis.

At the back of the power supply cover and right under the motherboard tray, there are a total of three cutouts. These offer easy access for the I/O panel cables and fan cables.

The back side of the interior has plenty of tie down points for cable management. There are a total of four Velcro straps preinstalled which hold the I/O panel cables routed towards the back of the case. Behind the motherboard tray, the space for cable management is approximately 24 mm.

On the upper left side of the case, towards the front, there is a metal plate that covers the wire management cutouts. In addition, this plate can accommodate up to two 2.5” storage devices at the front and is attached to the chassis with a thumbscrew.

Behind the motherboard tray and right over the CPU socket cutout, there is a metallic plate that can house two additional SSDs. This tray is removable and is held in place by a single thumb screw.

At the front of the case, and on the lower part, there is an HDD cage which can accommodate two 3.5″ drivers or one 3.5″ and one 2.5″ drive. This cage is attached to the chassis with two thumb screws and can be moved towards the power supply to increase the radiator clearance at the front of the case. In addition, the inside of the cage has rubber pads to prevent any vibrations from being passed into the rest of the system.

The Pure Base 500 has a total of two 140mm fans preinstalled. The first one is at the front of the case and is an intake, while the other is installed at the bac of the case as an exhaust. Both fans are part of the be quiet! Silent Wing 2 series and have a maximum speed of 900RPM.

The cables of the I/O panel are long and completely black.
